College Credit Courses Offered At BHS

Bucksport High School students have the opportunity to earn college credit while taking courses at BHS.  We have dual-enrollment agreements with Eastern Maine Community College and the University of Southern Maine.  We are looking to add more courses for next year and we are also in negotiations right now with the University of Maine at Fort Kent.

Students need to earn a C or better in the course to receive college credit.  BHS students will graduate with a BHS transcript and a college transcript, this will increase our students' chances for college acceptance and will save families money because some courses will have already been taken.  Courses that we offer are the following:

AP Statistics-USM and EMCC
Calculus A-USM
Calculus B-USM
Honors Algebra II-EMCC
AP English Language-EMCC

New Faculty Members Join BHS

We are excited about three new faculty members joining the BHS staff.  BHS is fortunate to find three great educators with years of experience to join our school community.

Guidance Counselor-Mrs. Kuhl
Mrs. Kuhl is a graduate of Iowa State University where she completed her undergraduate work in Liberal Arts.  She continued her education at the University of Maine and earned her Master's degree in counseling.  Mrs. Kuhl worked as a Guidance Counselor at Bangor High School for three years before being a "stay at home" mom the last seven years.  She knew she was going to go back to work when her children were old enough to go to school so she kept her certificate up to date and we were the first school she showed interest in working at.  Her enthusiasm, personality and people skills made her the perfect candidate and we are looking forward to our students, parents and community working with her.

English-Mrs. Bradstreet
Mrs. Bradstreet is a graduate of Wheaton College where she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree.  She continued her education at the University of Maine and earned her teaching certificate.  Mrs. Bradstreet worked at Searsport District Middle/High School for thirteen years, Manitowoe Public School District in Wisconsin and at Ellsworth High School the last two years.  Her extensive work in standards based education, overall teaching experience and enthusiasm to be at Bucksport High School really attracted us to Mrs. Bradstreet.  She will be teaching 10th grade English, Creative Writing and Conflicts III.

German-Mr. Schramke
Mr. Schramke is a graduate of University of Maine where he completed his undergraduate degree in German and Psychology and received his Master's degree in Teaching German at Portland State University.  He was a teaching assistant and teacher of German at Portland State University for two years.  This is Mr. Schramke's first experience of teaching high school students but is really excited about the opportunity.  Mr. Schramke is from Germany and has a great work ethic, positive attitude and is looking forward to teaching his students about his native language and country.

McCauley Named Student Of The Month

McCauley Donna was named BHS student of the month for February.  McCauley is a hard worker and terrific to have in class.  As English teacher Bob Cloutier said "McCauley Donna has great potential to be a high academic achiever, push him and he will respond."  Donna is not your typical high school student in Maine because he has a love for bowling.  McCauley has bowled a perfect score of 300 three times in his life.  He is the 2010 state champion for his age group in which he bowled a 300 in the final round of the competition.  McCauley will be attending Webber International College in Florida which is the largest bowling training center in the United States.  There are eleven gold bowling coaches in the world and three of them work at this training center.  Bowling is McCauley's spark that gives him life, energy and purpose.  Congratulations McCauley.

The data is taken by grades not by students, so the percentages may be higher in each category because one student could get multiple grades in one category.  The following is the breakdown by class:

                       9th Grade                     10th Grade                  11th Grade                   12th Grade

College Dual Enrollment Coming To BHS

Bucksport High School has solidified an agreement with Eastern Maine Community College to receive college credit while taking math classes at BHS.  Students who take and pass Honors Algebra II, AP Statistics and AP Calculus will receive credits from Eastern Maine Community College and Bucksport High School.  Math teacher Mike Cowing is teaching all three courses.  The agreement will start the 2012-2013 school year and will be open to any students that want to take these classes.  We are very excited to have this agreement in place and know students will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.  Students will be able to graduate from BHS with ten credits towards EMCC if they take all three math classes.
